So what happened on the recent work day - Friday 11th October?
Well I wasn't there, but I have spoken to someone who was, and have been up to take a few photos of the work. So if you are one of the great army of helpers who are wondering about whether to come and help, then hopefully this gives you a flavour of the kind of things we get up to.
Please do lend a hand - the more the merrier, and no prior skills required. I can honestly say that it has been really satisfying seeing the pond area develop over the last couple of years.
This day was the exception being on a weekday. Most of the time we meet on Sunday mornings, and you can see the date of future project days on the front page of this blog.
This is what happened...
Safety side bars added to the dipping platform - so the teachers don't get tempted to nudge one over the edge. |
Piles of pond weed dragged out of the pond. Left on the banks to allow bugs to crawl back into the water. | |
Wildflower meadow strimmed for winter, and pallet 'table' added for kids to use to work on. |
Great set of steps added at the far end of the pond, so kids can safely get down to the water's edge. (the benches in the background were built on a previous work day) |
Mini beast area created under the trees. Logs, rocks and bricks for bugs to hide in and under. |
Fruit trees pruned, to allow for a future path beneath the branches. |
